Who Wants to be a Millionaire?

This woman in Atlanta apparently aready was a millionaire. Three times over! Too bad the local friendly Wal-Mart brought her back to reality.

On Friday, Pike tried to use a couple of Wal-Mart cards to pay for $1,671.55 worth of items. But she only had a total of $2.32 on the cards, police said, so she handed the cashier a $1 million bill.

Pike then asked for change for her $1 million bill, police said. That would be $998,328.45. When police arrived, Pike pulled two more $1 million bills from her purse.

Pike told police she got the money from her husband, said Turner, who wasn’t sure if the man had been questioned.

Forging a million? Pretty crafty, or stupid rather.

Blog Tones

A girl from Belgium I met on the internet said she hated blogs. Why? Because she thought they were just the current fad. Although I know she was wrong, I do agree that the vast majority of subject matter in most blogs is inconsequential. Outside of technology related and politics related blogs, the remaining multitude are "personal diaries". I am a fan of these diaries, no matter how asinine or fickle they come across. I say this only because each of these particular blogs present a "tone". I think that the tone presented exhibits a characteristic of the author. And that's what intrigues me. The idiots out there will write pointless things, the narrow minded will write self serving analyses and the sincere will be just that, sincere.

Blog tones reveal something, however insignificant, about the author. Without trying to sound conceited, I'm curious what people who read this think it reveals about me.

Nothing Special for 2.0

Well, I've owned my domain name for about a year now. I decided it was time to fix a long list of nuisances and issues on my website. Yeah, that's it. Sorry to disappoint but my "re-launch" was nothing special. Everything still looks the same, but it should look just a little bit better. Let's see if I can list my changes ... Much better navigation ... Lots more content - Links, some stuff in Pictures and "In & Out" sections ... Archives completely reworked ... lots of visual coolness (Mozilla users will see more I'm afraid) ... You can finally edit the user preferences ... changed the top of the page (notice the catchy phrases?) and changed the bottom too ... Biggest change - I switched to XHTML. Yup now I'm standard's compliant. I cannot emphasize what a pain that was!

Well, bring on the comments, tell me what works. You know the drill. Hope everyone enjoys my labor: all 5 of my regular readers, and all 8000 of my 30 seconds or less readers AKA short attention span readers.

I almost didn't notice but I guess today was a "leap day". I forget if there was one in 2000, but I remember the one from 1996. My english teacher made some bizarre comment and it kinda got glued into my head. Me and my bizarre memory.

Gratitude

When I conceived the idea of putting up a full blown website I was fueled by creativity and curiousity. I thought it would be fun (geeky, I know). I had intended to perhaps write essays or some personal expositions, which evolved into a blog. I always wanted to write technical guides that would help people. I was very slow to put up a few resources on this site. It took a long time for anyone to notice or even find them useful.

It was really satisfying when someone emailed me and told me they found something useful. Some people asked for help, which I welcomed, and I helped as best I could. Some people asked a lot more, hoping I would help them with a business solution. Inappropriate, I assure you, but I stayed polite. Recently someone offered me a large donation because I helped them with a multimedia problem on their computer. The irony is that, to me, it wasn't a big deal, but I guess a helping hand goes a long way. Even though I wasn't expecting something like that, there is no greater feeling than knowing that you are appreciated.

What's Wrong?

Sometimes one of my brothers will ask me: "What's wrong?", and sometimes they'll get the response "Nothing more than usual". I guess this clearly classifies me as a pessimist. Is something always wrong? Well in a sense yes. I mean 50 Cent didn't win a grammy, we still haven't found those WMD's and, worse of all, I can't shake that my-life-is-stagnant feeling that always seems to sneak up on me. ... Funny thing: some people love to broadcast to the world when they are troubled. Like the classic "wounded soldier" - look at him, for he deserves consolation. ... And then there are those people who just expect people to understand what's wrong. They don't ask for a break or for help. They may need it or maybe they just need someone else to think that they need it. Maybe they give their friends and family too little credit or maybe too much. And ...

And that's when I think my blog ramblings have become too trite. Yeah maybe something is wrong with this post, but it's nothing more than usual.
