Demotivation

Do you ever get that feeling that you need a constant reminder that you're in despair? Or that you know there is something pathetic in your life? Well don't worry, Despair, Inc. has just the thing for you: Demotivators.

Quote the founder:

“Whether you’re a pessimist, underachiever or a chronic failure, I personally offer my unconditional* guarantee that Demotivators? will truly inspire you to new lows!".

I'll bet they make great gifts. Man, what will the think of next!?!?

Exclusive Diversity

Yet another pesky double standard in uber-liberal Ann Arbor gets the verdict from a judge. At the city's largest public high school, a so called "Diversity Week" in 2002 excluded a student with a dissenting opinion to participate in a forum, sparking a lawsuit. Recently, a federal judge criticized the school and compared their actions to Nazi Germany. A final ruling is expected in a week.

Here's the thing that I find interesting. The school district allowed the Gay-Straight Alliance to hold a forum titled "Homosexuality and Religion" which included 6 religious leaders. Yes, religious topics inside a public school. What bothers me is that groups like the ACLU will instantly threaten suit against the first (Christian) student who prays at a school sporting event, but somehow a whole week of religious topics can be presented without anyone giving some tripe about (the so called) seperation of church and state? It should be really easy for 6 clerics to go for a week without mentioning God on school grounds (yes I'm being facetious).

Opus Returns

Since I subscribe to the Detroit News as well as Ann Arbor, I get all the sunday inserts in saturday's edition of the Detroit News - including the comics. I was pretty shocked to see Opus has returned. I find it hard to beleive he's been gone for 10 whole years! Of course, I never liked the comic strip to being with, but it seems to be making some big headlines. Well if you enjoyed it then, it apparently has changed. It'll be interesting to see what Bill the Cat and the other weirdo's of Bloom County have been up to. That is, if I read it.

The comics I truly miss: Calvin and Hobbes, The Far Side and Peanuts.

Third Grade Recollection

In third grade the students in my class had to participate in a weekly "Show and Tell", which is not uncommon for many elementary schools. There was one Argentine girl (C. W.) in my class who was undebatably the nicest and most decent child in our entire grade. She brought in a small glass ornament to show. I'm not exactly sure if it was a family heirloom, but it was something very unique and important to her parents. She was standing and showing it to the class and for some reason rested it on the chalk tray on the chalk board. Moments later while she was facing the class, it tipped over and hit the floor. It shattered into an unrecognisable mess of a million tiny glass fragments. Of course she broke down in tears as well. It was pretty shocking to watch and, as anyone can see, completely unfair. I find it curious why this memory keeps coming back to me. Bad things happen to good people. Completely unfair.

Last Few Days

Well the last few days have been quite interesting. I won't go into detail since the people who should know, already do. Anyways, I've been shocked, surprised, and impressed by certain people. (Props to the mysterious figure at my door - and the accomplice.) ... Of course in other things I've also been confused, frustrated and overwhelmed. Not to fret, I'm feeling good now (a little elated in fact). Work, school, projects, fun, birthdays ... life just happens, and I hate playing catch-up.
